Letter to Educators and Parents Regarding New CDC Recommendations and their Impact on Children with Disabilities

On March 24, 2022, the Department of Education sent a letter to all Educators and Parents on behalf of the Secretary of Education, Miguel Cardona, regarding updates on COVID-19 and the needs of students with disabilities.

In the letter, Cardona highlights resources for both schools and parents to keep up to date with CDC COVID-19 recommendations and ensure an equal and safe education for students with disabilities. He suggests using an IEP or Section 504 so students are receiving an in-person education and following CDC recommendations on layered prevention strategies, and how schools can ensure students receive their education in the least restrictive environment possible.
