Amy J. Goetz

Ms. Amy J. Goetz is the founder of the School Law Center and co-founder of the former Center for Education Law, Ltd., law firms focusing on the rights of students and families in education and school law disputes. Ms. Goetz has worked in education law since 1995, first as a staff attorney with the Minnesota Disability Law Center in Minneapolis. After that, she worked as a Complaint Investigator at the Minnesota Department of Education. Presently, she works in the private practice of Education and School Law.

Ms. Goetz is a Minnesota native and the proud parent of two beautiful children with disabilities. Amy received her Undergraduate Degree from the University of Minnesota. She graduated cum laude and received her Law Degree from the University of Minnesota Law School. Amy Goetz is licensed to practice law in the State Courts of Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as in the Federal Court of Minnesota, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Kim Breitling

Kim Breitling joined us in the Fall of 2022. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida State University with a degree in Family and Child Sciences. In 2004, she graduated Cum Laude from Seattle University. Prior to law school, Kim worked as a Lovaas trained behavior therapist providing ABA therapy to students with autism. While in law school, Kim continued her behavior therapist work and also volunteered at the Special Education Law Clinic at Seattle University. After law school, Kim joined the Clark County Public Defender’s office in Las Vegas, Nevada. She worked as a Public Defender and Drug Court attorney for 8 years and as Contract Criminal Defense Attorney for an additional 4 years. During her time in Las Vegas, Kim provided special education pro bono services to several families throughout the Valley. Kim is a founding board member of LTO Ventures, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing affordable residential, integrated employment, and social engagement options for adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.

Kim moved to Minnesota in 2018 with her family of three kids, a husband, and one dog. She enjoys watching her kids play sports, spending time outdoors, and cycling.

Nicole Frethem

Nicole Frethem

Ms. Nicole Frethem joined us in 2023. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Hamline University with her bachelor’s degree, studying theater arts, education, and psychology. She received a master’s degree in education from Concordia University. In 2022, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor and a certificate in Conflict Resolution Theory and Practice and completing a graduate certificate in Public Policy and Leadership from the University of St. Thomas. Currently, Nicole serves as Ramsey County Commissioner for District 1. Prior to her service, she worked at the Department of Human Services as a supervisor in the Child Care Assistance Program and was the director of a NAEYC-accredited child care program in Saint Paul. Nicole has advocated for inclusive and accessible education services for all children for over a decade. She currently serves on the State Children’s Sub-Committee on Mental Health and the boards of directors for the Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington County, the Suburban Ramsey Family Collaborative, GenerationNext MSP, the Ramsey County Law Library, and Northeast Youth and Family Services. She has previously served on the boards of the Ramsey County Children’s Mental Health Collaborative and Child Care Works.

Ms. Frethem is a mother of two children, enjoys sci-fi and fantasy, Shakespeare, and fostering dogs with the Rescue Network.

 

Kasheena Byers

Mrs. Kasheena Byers joined us in 2023.  She began her career as a paralegal, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Professional Studies from The University of Memphis in 2013. As a paralegal, Kasheena worked in a variety of areas, including education law, labor and employment law, toxic tort defense, commercial litigation, and general civil litigation. In 2022, Kasheena earned her Juris Doctor from Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Her passion to utilize the law to help people brings her to our team. Kasheena enjoys spending time with her family and operating alongside her husband mentoring to youth.
