Special Education
I first sought help from the School Law Center when my son was in 6th grade. He was failing every class and had lost all self-confidence. With the help of Amy and her team, we were able to put an IEP in place that gave my son the accommodations he needed to succeed. He recently graduated from high school with a 3.7 GPA, was awarded a large academic scholarship at the college of his choice, and is now a successful college student. Thank you to the School Law Center for making this possible.

Amy, [student] just graduated from high school last weekend. I thought I’d reach out and thank you for all your help last year. [Student] received a ton of special tutoring and classes during his senior year. He’s looking at college, but we haven’t selected one yet.
Last year’s battle with the school district seems like a long time ago.The settlement we made with the district really made a difference in [student]’s education. Thanks again for all your help.

Hi Amy, A blast from the past here – you helped me about 7-8 years ago with the school and my son with ASD [Autism Spectrum Disorder]. We were able to get a 1:1 for him and an IEE. By the end of 4th grade, I ended up homeschooling him. By 8th grade, he wanted to go back to school so we started part-time. Then in 9th grade, full-time. He is graduating now at the top of his class. His ACT score was 28! He has become his own advocate and will call his own IEPs. He knows what he needs and advocates for it. I just recommended your firm to a relative with a child on the spectrum and thought I’d drop a line to say THANK YOU! You and your firm were instrumental in us getting his needs met.

Good Morning,
We thought you would enjoy an update on our daughter, BT, as you may not often receive follow-up on former clients. By way of background, you worked with us in 2013 on a special education due process complaint against the School District and an Independent Educational Evaluation.
BT graduated from High School in 2015 and passed national certification as an Emergency Medical Technician that summer after excelling in an EMT program senior year and earning 13 college credits. She just completed her freshman year at a State University and was named to the Dean’s List both semesters, earning A’s in all of her classes. BT is considering a major in Child Development and Family Studies, with the goal of working with special needs children. She has been volunteering at a special education preschool in addition to her studies.
Your support of BT and advocacy for her education during a very difficult time was invaluable to our family. We need your continued investment in educating schools to work with students like BT. Earlier intervention and recognition of her potential would have resulted in a much better middle and high school experience, as BT is proving eminently capable with the right infrastructure and support. She will be another torchbearer for the rights of students with disabilities.

Thank you, Amy!
You have been a steadfast and ongoing source of strength to our family in a situation that has at times caused us irrevocable harm and shame. Your diligence and determination to set a path of righteousness for the least among us, proves that there are still individuals who value the human societal contributions of even the weakest citizens.
Our choice to bring [student] into our home was never based on his journey being easy, but we never expected that the education system would cause us this much distress or grief.
You are a light to many!

Bullying and Harassment
J.G. was bullied and harassed at his school. The lawyers at the School Law Center helped to find a resolution. His parents provided the following feedback of their experience with the School Law Center:
We felt like our case was always the most important.
Phone calls were always returned promptly. Research was done to help us make decisions. We never felt like we were being offered something that was unattainable. Everything was always kept in perspective. We were given options and allowed to make choices. When we needed immediate help you were there. If you were out of town you notified us, and kept Amy abreast of what was going on so she could help us out if needed. J.G's well-being was always the center of every decision that was made. When we said that we would not do anything that would jeopardize his mental health it was taken seriously and other avenues were explored. Many, many, many times you stepped in and made immediate decisions when you knew we were too emotionally stressed out to deal with the situation at hand. The guidance that was given to us when dealing with doctors notes and our concern with the early end of treatment. You listened when I just needed to plead my case to someone. You made sure that we had enough information to take on our case. Once again I felt like your concern was always J.G. and you would not put him or us through all the nasty paperwork if the case did not merit it. You made time to meet with J.G. when he was struggling with the whole situation. And most importantly was the smile on J.G's face when you asked him to send you an invitation to his graduation!
